Candi and Tim

Well Candi and Tim's wedding was so sweet and beautiful at St John's Lutheran Church in Chehalis. The 90 degree weather even added a nice glow to everyone there, looks great in pictures!

Their ceremony was precious, with twin flower girls and ring bearers that had to be coaxed down the long aisle with a bag of candy. Those are memories worth recording!

Of course a hush covered the guests when the beautiful bride started down the aisle, and the groom couldn't have had a bigger smile on his face!
It was enjoyable and I wish Candi and Tim the very best!

Mt. Rainier

Well I went hiking up at Mt. Rainier with my Dad and had a blast! Nevermind that it was a 7 hour hike up a mountain and back and that my legs/hips/arms feel like lead this morning on top of being really sore. I would definitely do it again! We hiked up to Lake George near Emerald Ridge and, while constantly moving because stopping would mean being eaten alive by mosquitos, I got some really great pictures! The water was such a beautiful icy blue, almost the color of Hawaiian waters, but much much colder. Then after we walked/dragged ourselves back down we had dinner at the cutest little restaurant which was in an old boxcar. Pretty awesome day, so enjoy!

Lake Sylvia and Griffith-Priday State Parks

The last two weeks have been extremely busy for me, but I managed to snap a few shots from these two wonderful parks! Lake Sylvia in Montesano and Griffith Priday on the coast a little ways up from Ocean Shores. At the lake we had a surprise car show as all the classic cars from the show in Montesano drove through the park. Since I'm a big car fan myself this was the cherry on top of that day!

Rainbow Falls State Park

First off, this park had the cleanest restrooms of any public park I've ever seen so I was thoroughly impressed by that. The park itself was beautiful with the river and trails and I even encountered a few people panning for gold! Quite the peaceful day and wonderfully sunny to boot, I enjoyed it so here are a few highlights I want to share with you. Oh and the scary just-barely-wide-enough-to-fit-one-car bridge to get to the park was an adventure all by itself. I don't think I've ever been so nervous on a bridge before!

Historic Chehalis

Well I happened to get the chance to wander around Chehalis and see some of their historic buildings that they still use today and learn a bit about the local history. I also got the chance to ride the steam train, which I was ridiculously excited for all day! I concluded that one should always keep all hands, legs and torsos inside the train as one of the conductors fell off during our trip. He was perfectly fine but it made for a bit of excitement that's for sure!

Dance Shoot

Well I had the chance to photograph an amazing dancer and a great friend this last weekend. He needed some publicity shots for his soloist work. We got great pictures despite the wiring not liking my lights after lugging the gear up three stories. Then we had some difficulty with drape, but hey, unplanned shots always turn out the best!
The shoot took place at the Urban Grace Studio in Tacoma.

Olympia Dance Center's festival pieces

So I had the opportunity to take a few shots for Olympia Dance Center. They are hosting the Olympia Dance Festival (March 6th at the Washington Center downtown) and they needed some pictures for the newspaper. Lucky me I got to take them! The dances look great and I'm personally excited to see the performances at the festival, but in the meantime here's a sneak peak.

Senior pics at the capitol

I love it when I get families that call me for everything! Being there at engagement to wedding and family pictures is really a neat feeling. Getting to record those wonderful memories is such a blessing for me, so thank you!

Sal and Tiara wanted their senior pictures taken together, so we headed to the capitol campus. We got incredibly lucky and caught a break in the rain, even though the grass was like quicksand as we found out the hard way. Here are a couple of my favorites!

Wedding at the Aerie

Sorry for the large amount of time in between posts; it's been busy! I just had to put up a few sneak peeks from my last wedding. It was so much fun! From start to finish everyone was laughing and having a good time. This couple was so in love I couldn't help but smile!
They picked the perfect location, the Aerie Ballroom in Centralia. The colors and interior design are perfect for the classic wedding. In fact I got married there nearly a year ago! I have to mention that the food was delicious, mmm roast beef. Did I also mention that every cake was a different yummy flavor? This couple got it right!

Marble and Graffiti

Well I took a last minute-before-the-deadline-for-yearbook senior shoot on Saturday and it was great! No rain, pretty cold but I prefer that to rain. When we arrived at the capitol grounds first, it was swarming with people for homecoming. Tuxes, frills and bright colors were everywhere! To end the shoot we traveled downtown to one of the graffiti walls. All in all it was a fun time!

It was the weekend for love with two engagement shoots. Having a photographer in the family means everyone comes to you for their special moments and I couldn't be happier about it! My cousin got himself engaged to a wonderful woman and I had the privilege of taking their engagement shots. They are so in love and it's moments like these that make my job a joy!

Burfoot Park Engagement Shoot

Well we had a blast climbing trees, slugging through a swamp, hunting zombies and wading in the water at the beach all at Burfoot park! This couple was fearless; there was nothing too muddy or too wet to stop them from getting a great picture, every photographer's dream!

Branching Out

Well after taking pictures of the RX-7 meet, and the AMX, I've decided to add a new section to A Perfect Mirror Photography; Cars!
My grand idea (with credit to the family for suggesting it) is to take fine detail pictures of a car and frame them around a picture of the whole car. I'm also going to offer a digitally combined version as well; that looks something like this:

AMC AMX car revival

Having a photographer in the family means EVERYTHING gets recorded. In this case the monumental event of washing my Dad's classic muscle car, an AMC AMX. There is a long story behind this car, but suffice it to say that it doesn't get out much.

The first step to restoration is cleaning the thing, so that's what we did. Well, they cleaned and I recorded the event for future generations. The AMX is such a beloved heirloom that I just to post a few pictures up, enjoy!

And here is a completely random picture of Daniel and Shelby. She wanted to help clean too, but dog slobber dulls the paint.

Marrying in the rain

On Saturday I had the opportunity to photography an extremely fun wedding in Centralia. Yes that was the day it was raining by the way. I have photographed a couple "rained on" weddings before and it had always cleared up before the ceremony; I was hoping my luck would hold today

I won't leave you in suspense, my luck held and it didn't rain during the ceremony. It did rain the entire time we were taking portraits though; it was time to bring out the darling black umbrella pictures.

Thankfully I had worn the perfect footwear for the event, and as an added bonus I matched the bridal party!

All in all we were all laughing the entire time, got great pictures, the ceremony was funny and touching at the same time, and the cake was quite possibly the coolest one I'd ever seen. So enjoy this little preview of, yes I will officially declare it, my most fun wedding so far.

New Graphics

Well I finally had some spare time to design a few new graphics for the website. I do all of the web design myself so sometimes I find it very difficult to find time to update it. I'm getting there slowly; bits and pieces at a time.

I also refuse to use a full flash website, they get awful rankings unless you pay an arm and a leg to get it up at the top, so I cheat. I put a flash slide show inside each category so you still get the special effects ;) So make sure you check back every couple weeks or so, odds are something has changed.

Maybe I should hold a contest to see who can spot the most differences first...

Anyways, here are a couple of the new graphics I've been working on; contact picture, and a few web banners.

Beach Trip!

Well it is summertime (sorta) in Washington, although I don't think I've ever seen so few sunny days during "summer" here.

So I did what any self-respecting Washingtonian would do; head to another state. I went with my family to Pacific City, Or.

Now I didn't bring my awesome camera, just my handy-dandy pocket one and I was more preoccupied with lazing around on the beach then taking pictures. However I did manage to snap a few of the tidal pools which turned out pretty nice.

So enjoy staring at what we wish we had here in Washington (sandy beaches and warm weather)!

Mazda RX7 club

Well I couldn't resist taking my camera along for the ride, literally, to the RX7 club meet. I used to drive a 1982 gray rx7, but as it broke down every other week I thought it wouldn't be the greatest car to take into a marriage. So my Dad has it now and brings it for me!

I still go to the meets though, I love seeing all the cars and hearing all the stories. It's a great group of people and they don't mind that I don't officially own an rx7, so long as I don't park in "the line".

Origami

Well summer has been keeping me busy, and designing Fuzi's new catalog has been taking up a big chunk of my time. I did find time to pick up a new hobby though; origami. No, I won't include a link to wikipedia about origami; if you really have the burning desire to know I'm sure you can find your way to it.

Lately I have found that folding a single piece of paper into something 3D and recognizable is extremely satisfying. It also makes for great tips and a trick to amaze your friends with.

It is also oddly fun to photograph; as I spent almost an hour with just three creations. It just goes to prove that ANYTHING is photo-worthy!

More photo adventures to come soon, I just figured that I would give you small post to tide you over ;)

Catalog shoot

Well today I had a small shoot, just a few pictures, for Fuzi. They are a major ballet shoe manufacturer (www.fuzi.net if you get curious) and they needed some product pictures for their new catalog (which I'm also designing!). For the actual catalog the pictures will be cut from the background, but I thought some of them looked pretty neat so naturally I had to post them here.

Being a dancer myself it was neat to take photos in a dance studio. Combining photography and dance; both passions of mine was great to do. It was fun and I'm looking forward to the final design of the catalog in a couple weeks.

Welcome to A Perfect Mirror Photography's photo journal! I'm Kiara Boggs, the owner, and I decided to try and capture some of my town through my photography. There are so many interesting things that happen under our very noses, but we rarely take the time to notice. My aim is to re-introduce these common things to you in a new light, hopefully keeping myself and you entertained as well.

My first journey was to Percival landing in Downtown Olympia, WA. There is a wall on East Bay Dr. that has silhouettes of people and ships painted on it. This wonderful piece of art has been there for a few years now but I noticed that there is never any graffiti on it.

As fate would have it, as I was driving in and I noticed someone out there with a power sander, grinding away at that wall.
Curiosity overcame me, so naturally I had to stop my car and get out. This person wished to remain anonymous so I will arbitrarily say it's a man named Steve. I walked up with my camera and asked him what he was doing (even though I had a pretty good idea already). He was indeed cleaning the wall, and repainting where needed, but the real surprise was he was doing it from the goodness of his heart!
As an Olympia resident he decided that it was his community duty to preserve this wall painting so that others may enjoy it's beauty. I found this amazing and I'm very happy to know we have such upstanding citizens in our city. His diligence allowed me to take wonderful photos of this artwork unfettered by graffiti tags.

After taking my full of photos I thanked Steve and continued on my original mission: Percival Landing.

After a lengthy search for parking, I found myself strolling along the dock enjoying the rare sunshine. I was snapping pictures of anything really, just happy to be in the sun; everyone of all ages was doing the same. Being the fair-skinned person I am though, I began to feel like a roast that had been left in too long. I hot-footed it back to my car and ended my journey for the day; thoroughly satisfied with my photos and the overall experience.

Let me know what you think about the photos, and please tell me why there is a pig on the sign for Percival Landing, I have no idea and my curiosity will burn forever until I know.
